Nell Gwynn – a restoration comedy

Nell Gwynn
By Jessica Swale
Composer Nigel Hess
Directed by Lynn Bushell

Pretty, witty, Nell Gwynn (Isabella McClymont) a lowly orange seller rises to become the mistress of King Charles II (Greg Webb) in this warm-hearted, bawdy comedy.  1660s London casts off its drab, puritanical past and embraces everything extravagant and sexy. In the burgeoning world of women on the stage premiere actor Charles Hart (Stefan van Trigt) trains her as an actor-ess and they become lovers. Unaware of her success and who is watching, Nell mesmerises and captures the heart of the public and the King. Who wins the heart of our unlikely heroine?
